Bosch 0406008239 — PE In-Line Injection Pump for MTU 16V396 TE-04

The Bosch 0406008239 is a heavy-duty PE series in-line injection pump designed and calibrated for the MTU 16V396 TE-04 — one of the most demanding high-speed diesel engines in the MTU 396 product family. Operating at displacement volumes of 63.4 liters across 16 cylinders, the 16V396 TE-04 is found in marine propulsion, power generation sets, and large industrial drives across Europe and beyond. This pump, carrying the Bosch type formula PE 8 ZWM 170/100 RS 3065, is the original equipment injection pump for this engine variant.

About the PE In-Line Injection Pump System

The Bosch PE series (Pumpe-Element, or in-line injection pump) is a mechanically governed, multi-element fuel injection pump where each pump element serves one engine cylinder. On the MTU 16V396 TE-04, with its 16 cylinders arranged in a V-configuration, two PE8 pumps are fitted — one per bank — each supplying eight cylinders. This configuration is standard for the 396 engine family across its -02, -03, and -04 generations.

The type formula PE 8 ZWM 170/100 RS 3065 decodes as follows:

• PE — In-line injection pump (Pumpe-Element)
• 8 — Eight pumping elements (serves an 8-cylinder bank)
• ZWM — Intermediate flange mounting (Zwischenflansch-Montage), the standard for MTU 396 series integration
• 170 — Plunger diameter code
• 100 — Stroke / delivery volume designation
• RS 3065 — Calibration and setting code specific to this engine variant and power rating

The PE series pump delivers fuel at high pressure to individual nozzle holder assemblies via high-pressure lines. On the 396 TE-04, delivery pressure and timing are set to meet the engine’s rated output of 2240 kW at 1800 rpm. The mechanical governor controls fuel delivery across the full speed and load range, with an integrated stop device and speed limiter as standard on marine and industrial variants.

Engine Application

Note: The MTU 16V396 family spans several generations (-02, -03, -04) and sub-variants. The Bosch 0406008239 with type formula RS 3065 is calibrated specifically for the TE-04 variant. Related but differently calibrated pumps (e.g. 0406008244 / RS 3071, 0406008237) are used on other 396 variants and should not be substituted without Bosch calibration verification.

Equipment Application

The MTU 16V396 TE-04 is a high-output engine platform used across multiple demanding application categories. The table below lists the primary equipment types where this engine — and therefore this injection pump — is found.
